In Romans 8:35-39, Paul writes some beautiful, powerful words about the love of Jesus. He speaks of what I will call the incredible, invincible, impenetrable power of Christ’s love!  For those who have received this love, it is such an amazing, extravagant love that we cannot be separated from it. The binding power of love that connects us to Jesus cannot be broken. No one can steal it or take it from you. No one can disarm it or blow it up or destroy it. No one can break it open. No one can breach it or fracture it. You are fiercely guarded and perfectly protected by the love of Jesus. You are safe and secure. His love is sure. His love is binding. He will never let go of you. You cannot lose his love. We are more than conquerors because of his love. We are spiritually invincible because of the powerful, impenetrable love that eternally binds us to Jesus!

When you receive God’s extravagant love by putting your faith in Jesus Christ, there is a supernatural, invincible attachment or binding together that takes place. Paul writes in Colossians: He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (Colossians 1:17) We understand the power of gravity and its pull. We understand the energy & power released in a nuclear explosion. We understand the power of the written word to expose injustice or move us to tears. We understand the power of a live video feed to capture our attention, reveal the truth and change our perspective. We understand the power of death that steals our loved ones away from us. We understand the power of a waterfall that, over time, wears away the rock underneath it. But what we don’t quite understand is the power of a loving God to save “a wretch like me” and bind us to him with incredible, invincible, impenetrable love! I believe – and Paul believes – that the power of love is the greatest power in all creation. Would you ever say that the love shared between Father, Son and Holy Spirit can be broken? We would never say that. The love shared between the Trinity never fails. It is holy and pure, without end. That same incredible, invincible, impenetrable love has now been shared with you and with me. We have been invited into that same loving relationship the Trinity shares! Isn’t that incredible? The Father loves you with the same powerful love that he loves the Son. And the same love that the Son loves the Father. God loves you that way. We can receive that same powerful love. We can go and share the love of Jesus with others.

What makes Jesus love for you so incredibly binding is that it is covenantal love. The love of God expressed in Christ on the cross shows the radical lengths God has taken to restore us. The healing of our broken relationship with God took place in the binding covenant that Jesus made… in his blood… at the cross. God gave his life for you. Your Creator died for you. And came back to life. God’s covenant in the blood of Christ is eternally binding. Be blessed and encouraged as you take a few moments to meditate on these powerful verses about the incredible, invincible, impenetrable love of Jesus at the end of Romans 8: I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
