How does God loves us? What is the love language that God expresses to us? And not only that, do we “get it”, do we understand it, do we feel loved? Probably the most famous verse in the Bible is found in the Gospel of John. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) God’s one and only Son is Jesus – the same Jesus who died on the cross of Calvary on the first Good Friday, who was then taken down from the cross and buried in a tomb with a large stone rolled over the entrance. He was dead and was buried. But on the third day – on that first Easter Sunday – he rose from the dead! I like to say it this way: Love Resurrects! The power of love resurrects!
The Father’s language of love is Jesus. The Scriptures say very plainly that Jesus willingly left heaven where he was with his Father, that he was born of a virgin in Bethlehem, that he grew up in Nazareth where he lived and worked, and that he ministered to the people of Israel. He healed the blind, the lame, the sick, the lepers… he spoke only Truth… he cast out demons… he multiplied the loaves and fish… he calmed the storm… he lived a sinless life… he revealed the Father’s love. Jesus’ entire being – his entire life and ministry – and his actual person, is the expression of the Father’s love. Jesus is the Father’s love language perfectly expressed.
WHY is this important? WHY do we need to know this? Well, it’s because I believe our deepest need as human beings is to love… and to be loved. We are incomplete without love. You were created to love and to be loved. We are incomplete human beings unless we have experienced real love. We are broken and lost, wandering and unfulfilled human beings unless we have learned to give love and receive love. And the Father has loved us perfectly by giving us Jesus. And Jesus has loved us perfectly by dying on the cross – the sinless perfect God-man – paying the price for OUR sins. But that’s not all… Love Resurrects!
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1st John 3:1) The word “great” is not referring to the quantity of God’s love but to the nature or quality of his love. Resurrection love is an extravagant love… an outrageous love… we might even say it is a reckless love. When I say reckless, I mean it in the holy & pure sense of whatever it takes, whatever the sacrifice, whatever the cost, God is going to pay the ultimate price to lavish his love on us. It’s a love so extravagant and so startling and so magnificent that there is no greater love! “We love because he first loved us.” God pursued us with resurrection love long before we pursued him. (1st John 4:19) There is no power in heaven or earth that can stop resurrection love from pursuing us and reaching us! Do you realizeresurrection love is so powerful that not even death itself can stop it! Death cannot limit it, death cannot contain it, death cannot imprison it. God’s love expressed through Jesus can never die! Love Resurrects! It is never-ending! It is victorious! Have you received this love into your life? Ask him to forgive your sins, turn from running your own life, and receive the love of Jesus today!
