In Revelation 19, Jesus returns to earth as coming King, at the head of his angelic army. He is given the names Faithful and True, Word of God, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is also given a name which no one knows except himself. Do you know why he still has a name that no one knows? Because there is still mystery surrounding Jesus. It is impossible for the creature to know everything about the Creator. We will not know everything about Jesus even after he returns. There will always be something new to discover about him. There will be mystery to discover. The first time Jesus came, he humbled himself and took on humanity. The Gospel of John, chapter 1, says “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” He grew into manhood and gathered his 12 disciples. He then accomplished our salvation by suffering on the cross, dying, and rising again. Isaiah 53 describes him as the Suffering Servant, despised and rejected by men. And yet, here in Revelation 19, we see him as the conquering general, the King of Kings. How does Jesus transform from Suffering Servant to conquering general? It is not so much a transformation as it is an exaltation to his former glory. He was always the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! His Transfiguration describe in Matthew 17 reveals that to us. But He made himself nothing out of obedience to the Father and love for you so that salvation could be gained. By humbling himself in obedience, Jesus appeared in person to reveal the extravagant love of God. We would not truly understand God’s love for us unless Jesus made himself nothing and became man. We have to see that from the beginning Jesus was with God, but out of love he chose to become man and chose the way of the cross to break the hold of sin on the world which came through Adam in the Garden of Eden. He willingly did this. And now he comes in Revelation 19 in his exaltation and glory! He comes to us first in love, before he comes to us as conquering king. If we only know Jesus in his exalted state, we will not know the extravagance of his love. Do you know this kind of love?    Pastor Randy
